ATTRACTIONS

The Rock

The hotel stands in a central, but quiet zone, characterized by the greenery of the Memorial Park and the Medieval Rock, whose first historical mention dates back to 1354, when Giacomo Visconti started the building works on a pre-existent fortification followed by Bartolomeo Colleoni, who contributed to its reinforcement.
Nowadays the castle structure is square in plan, defended by towers, four of them angular and two overwhelming the northern and southern gateway. The brickwork walls with original Ghibelline battlement is surrounded by a deep moat, where in summer folklore competitions take place on occasion of the “Festa in rocca.”

The Sanctuary

The presence of the "brave condottiero” in our homeland is perceived above all in the small outlying ward of Basella, where Colleoni made the present monastery been built. In Basella in fact you can visit the centuries old and prestigious Sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna; a chapel was built after the Madonna appeared on April 8th, 1356 (Mary's first appearance in Bergamo land) on the ruins of an older church. 1460 Colleoni fostered its enlargement.

The Bell Tower

Another important monument is the neoclassical bell tower, built on the project of the famous architect Luigi Gagnola. It is 54 metres high with a cylindrical shape. It is divided into 5 sectors with 16 niches and as many statues with a capitulum supported by eight caryatids and provided with a chimes of 11 bells.
